Who’s ready for a day trip with a difference?
A small team at have put together an amazing series of day tours that showcase some of Victoria’s most pristine beaches, shorelines and mountainous locations… with a difference! You don’t just see it, you LIVE it!
Choose your tour depending on where your energy and mood take you! Feeling fit and ready to conquer… then get your adrenaline pumping with some downhill mountain biking on Arthurs Seat. Kayak the pristine beaches on the Mornington Peninsula, hike along some stunning coastal trails, or if you prefer a well-balanced tour that still gets you outdoors and active, then the stunning Sherbrooke forest hike, followed by wine tasting in the Yarra Valley could be just the right pick for you!
For me…. it was a hard decision to choose between these options:
-Yarra Valley Active Adventure: rainforest walk and winery tour
– Mornington Peninsula Epic Adventure: hike, mountain bike and kayak or SUP
– Phillip Island Odyssey: hike and Aussie wildlife
– Great Ocean Road Hiking Adventure
In the end my friend and I decided on the Mornington Peninsula Epic Adventure! So here’s a little taste of our experience:
The minibus departed Melbourne CBD at 6:55am on a Sunday morning, but luckily for Caz and I we both live on the Mornington Peninsula, so we had a much more respectable pickup time of 7:50am at Dromana. We met Rich, our tour leader for the day who introduced us to the adventure seekers already onboard!
We chat easily, and laugh all the way to our first destination like we’ve all know each other for ages!
Our first stop is Cape Schanck Lighthouse. We hike from the car park at Cape Schanck, along the coastline to the secluded Bushrangers Bay . It’s wild, rugged and beautiful! From here Rich doubles back to get the van whilst we continue on up along the trail until we meet him again at the Boneo Rd car park. All up it’s about a 5.5km hike to get us started.
Did I mention the scenery and wildlife along the way… Just take a look below!
Back on the bus Rich shares some of his homemade banana bread before we head off on the 20 min drive back towards Arthur’s Seat State Park, Red Hill for some mountain bike riding. Rich has a selection of quality mountain bikes on the trailer that have been sized up to fit each individual rider’s height.
On arrival, we grab our bikes, select a helmet and are given a quick rundown on our bikes functionality, safety, and an overview of the trails that we’ll be tackling.
Rich is conscious that everyone’s ability and experience on mountain bikes vary greatly, so offers alternate routes to match riders ability, thus not only keeping it as safe as possible but enjoyable too!
The trails around here are a mountain bikers haven with varying technical trails, which are also home to the Red Hill Riders Mountain Bike Club . You’ll find a stack of information on all of the trails if you head to their website here .
After all that activity, our team were getting HUNGRY! Luckily for us we got to finish at the bottom of the hill in Dromana, right opposite Wombat cafe!
The smell from outside Wombat cafe was amazing! Annnd despite it being a completely vegan cafe, it was a huge hit… even with the meat-loving boys! Our group ordered the smashed avo on toast, the highly recommended Buddha bowl (suggested by Rich), toasties and wraps.
With full bellies and bikes loaded on the trailer, it was time to take on the 3rd activity of the day… which was a choice between kayaking or stand up paddle boarding (SUP). Unfortunately for us the wind had whipped up and safety became a concern, so it was called off for the day. But there’s always a backup plan!
Overall: What can I say! Despite being a local, and initially wondering whether this tour would be too ‘touristy’ for me, or ahem… boring! All I can say that it was AWESOME! A great day out, with a great bunch of people, doing things we love!
This reviewer from TripAdvisor summed up the overall feel of the tour perfectly! “I had a fabulous day on a tour with Rich, which really didn’t feel like a tour, rather a fun road trip with friends.
So what are you waiting for… book yourself a tour with here , or buy one as a gift for someone special. You’ll love it!
